About me
I initially trained and worked as a couples counsellor with Relate. I then became a trainer with them and taught behavioural techniques to adults to help them improve their life skills e.g by becoming assertive. I extended my career further by running a counselling service within a GP practice. Coinciding with this I taught counselling for the University of Exeter and also set up group work for Carers to enable them to come to terms with the many complexities of this role. Finally I have worked in universities with students, both post and undergrad, experiencing mental health issues. My life experience and maturity means I have great insight into the issues that people may have to deal with.
Areas of interest
I work with clients between the ages of 18 and 80; I am particularly interested in relationships and have specialist training and experience, this includes with partners, within families and in the workplace; I have worked for many years in the NHS and am very experienced at understanding the impact of physical illness on emotional well being and vice versa; I have specialised in bereavement and loss which can occur in many areas of life e.g. relationships work, as a carer and due to life stages; I am also trained and specialise in working with clients to help them understand why difficulties in adult life may connect to childhood experiences and how they can change those patterns. I help people to understand themselves so that they can then make changes to how they live their lives, this can help with many mental health conditions, e.g anxiety, depression, jealousy, self esteem and relationship issues.
