About me
Dr. Joao Martins is a Consultant Cardiologist with extensive experience in general cardiology and subspecialisation in advanced transcatheter therapies.
He provides comprehensive, evidence-based care across all aspects of general cardiology � including chest pain, breathlessness, arrhythmias, high blood pressure, heart failure, and cardiovascular risk management.
His specialist expertise includes coronary angiography and stent implantation, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), mitral and tricuspid edge-to-edge repair (TEER) and PFO closure.
Dr. Martins graduated with honours in Medicine from Porto University before completing doctoral research at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women's Hospital (Boston, USA). He then undertook postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology in London, completing advanced fellowships at King's College Hospital, St George's Hospital, and Oxford University Hospitals.
He currently practises as a Consultant Cardiologist in Structural and Coronary Intervention at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton), where he delivers specialist care across the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Martins has a strong academic and research background, with multiple publications in high-impact journals and presentations at international scientific conferences. His work focuses on improving outcomes for patients with advanced cardiac conditions through the development and implementation of minimally invasive, catheter-based interventions.
