About me

Mr Shantanu Shahane is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital NHS Trust, with a private practice at Claremont. He has also been appointed as an Honorary Senior lecturer by the University of Sheffield.

He specialises in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder including shoulder decompressions, rotator cuff repairs, arthrolysis for frozen shoulders and instability surgery (including Bankart and SLAP repairs). He also performs shoulder and elbow replacements for arthritic joints and has a special interest in trauma surgery including sports injuries of the shoulder and elbow. Mr Shahane has started orthopaedic clinics at Sheffield Children's Hospital to treat children suffering from pathologies of the shoulder and elbow.

Mr Shantanu Shahane has completed a fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, a centre of excellence for surgery of the upper limb and a further six months as a fellow at the Cappagh Hospital, Dublin to obtain further training in surgery of the shoulder and elbow joints. He has also trained with other world renowned shoulder and elbow surgeons and has worked with Dr. Sean O’Driscoll at the Mayo clinic, Rochester USA, Dr.Gartsman, Houstan, USA and Dr.Joe DeBeer at his Cape Town clinic in South Africa.

He is a member of BESS (British Shoulder and Elbow Society) and is a reviewer for the journal “Shoulder and Elbow” Mr Shahane is an associate editor of the British " Shoulder and Elbow". He has also been recently appointed on the executive council of BESS. He has been awarded two fellowships by BESS.
He has also published extensively in all fields of orthopaedic surgery. He is also a member of the British Orthopaedic Association. He has presented shoulder and elbow papers at numerous national and international meetings and is on training faculty for courses on the shoulder and elbow joints.
