About me
Dr Helen Garthwaite is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with specialist expertise in interstitial lung disease (ILD). She trained at Imperial College School of Medicine and completed her specialist training at leading centres including the Royal Brompton, Royal Free and Hammersmith Hospitals.
She is a Consultant at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Clinical Lead for the ILD Unit, where she leads complex multidisciplinary care and contributes to national and international research and clinical trials.
In her private practice, she offers specialist, thoughtful consultations grounded in evidence, experience, and a deep understanding of the individual.
Dr Garthwaite's approach is holistic, personalised, and collaborative. She recognises that respiratory and in particular, interstitial lung diseases impact her patient's daily life, emotional wellbeing, and long-term plans.
Each consultation is unhurried and tailored to the individual with an approach anchored on a detailed medical history and understanding of the person's lifestyle, values, and priorities, integrating the latest evidence with what matters most to the patient. Where appropriate, care is coordinated with other specialists to ensure a seamless, joined-up approach.
