About me
Dr Hudaifa Al Ani is a Consultant Rheumatologist and General Internal Medicine physician, currently holding a substantive NHS Consultant post at Wexham Park Hospital, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to this, he served as a Consultant within London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, working across Northwick Park and Ealing Hospitals.
He graduated from King's College London in 2013, achieving Merit in his final year. In 2010, he completed a BSc in Cardiovascular Sciences at Imperial College London. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine in August 2023 following higher specialist training within the Thames Valley Deanery.
During specialty training, Dr Al Ani rotated through leading centres, including the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. There, he gained extensive experience managing complex multisystem autoimmune diseases under the supervision internationally recognised experts.
Dr Al Ani provides comprehensive rheumatology care, with specialist expertise in inflammatory arthritis, vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and osteoporosis. His practice emphasises early diagnosis, prompt initiation of evidence-based therapies, and coordinated multidisciplinary care to optimise long-term outcomes.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Al Ani contributes actively to service development and quality improvement within the NHS. At Wexham Park Hospital, he has held leadership roles including Sepsis Lead and Grand Round Lead. He is currently involved in updating local guidelines for the management of Giant Cell Arteritis, helping refine urgent referral pathways, standardise best practice, and improve timely access to treatment.
Dr Al Ani maintains a strong academic interest. He has published in peer-reviewed journals including Rheumatology Advances in Practice, the Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology, and the World Journal of Nephrology. His research includes a systematic review and meta-analysis on polyautoimmunity in Sj�gren's syndrome, as well as studies examining inflammatory and cardiovascular comorbidity. He has presented his work at national and international meetings, including the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) and EULAR.
Medical education forms an integral part of Dr Al Ani's professional practice. He leads the Rheumatology Journal Club at Wexham Park Hospital and has delivered structured teaching programmes for PACES candidates, supporting postgraduate examination preparation and clinical skills development.
He provides regular undergraduate teaching to medical students from Southampton and Brunel Universities and has previously taught students from Imperial College London. Earlier in his career, he delivered rheumatology teaching in Oxford, focusing on musculoskeletal examination skills and core rheumatology principles.
He previously founded and led a large annual OSCE preparation course for medical students, raising substantial funds for charity. He has also undertaken formal training in teaching and management, strengthening his leadership, supervision, and educational skills within the NHS.
He is committed to delivering personalised, patient-centred care grounded in shared decision-making. He prioritises clear communication, ensuring patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options and feel supported throughout long-term disease management. His approach balances clinical excellence with compassion and continuity of care.
