About me

Mr James Brewer is a Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgery. He specialises in minimally invasive approaches to complex benign oesophago-gastric conditions, abdominal wall hernias and biliary disease. His clinical interests include gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, achalasia, gallstone disease, hiatus hernias, revisional surgery, pancreatitis, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and emergency bariatric and general surgery. His NHS practice is based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he co-chairs the Complex Benign Upper GI and Biliary Multidisciplinary Team Meetings.

Mr Brewer has worked at several of London's leading Upper GI centres, including Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, University College London Hospitals and The Royal Marsden Hospital. He has worked alongside internationally recognised experts in hernia surgery, including through multiple humanitarian missions with Operation Hernia and Hernia International foundations.

Mr Brewer has published and presented original research at international academic meetings and received a national innovation award for the development of a patented surgical technology. He is passionate about training the next generation of surgeons and has been recognised nationally for excellence in surgical education, receiving finalist medals for both the prestigious Silver Suture and Silver Scalpel awards.
