About me
Dr Randa Akel is a highly experienced Consultant Dermatologist who treats a wide range of skin conditions in adults and children.
She is Deputy Service Director for Dermatology and Lead for the Adult and Paediatric Vulval Service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and practices privately at The Medical Chambers Kensington.
Dr Akel is expert in the early detection and treatment of skin cancers and the management of a wide range of dermatology conditions including acne, rosacea, melasma, eczema, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, excess sweating (hyperhidrosis) and conditions affecting the hair, scalp, nails and genital skin.
She has special expertise in vulval dermatology, supporting patients with conditions affecting the vulva, vagina or perineum, including lichen sclerosus, HPV/intraepithelial neoplasia, and Extramammary Paget's disease. She is also skilled in managing skin changes related to menopause and HRT including hormonal acne and skin aging.
She understands the specialist needs of trans and non-binary patients and she supports patients with both genital and general skin conditions, including managing skin-related side effects following gender-affirming treatments and surgery.
She works closely with gynaecologists, sexual health physicians, pelvic health physiotherapists, psychosexual specialists and other specialists to deliver exceptional patient-centred care.
As a recognised expert, Dr Akel has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and is active in both commercial and non-commercial research. She has received national acclaim for her work, earning awards from prestigious annual meetings such as the British Association of Dermatologists and the British Society for the Study of Vulval Disease.
Dr Akel is a passionate teacher and a Royal College of Physicians accredited educator and educational supervisor. She is regularly invited to talk at national and international conferences.
Dr Akel is committed to staying well informed about the latest evidence-based treatments and innovations in dermatology to provide the best possible care for her patients.
