About me

Mr Kam Cheema is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in London, specialising in Hip and Knee surgery. Renowned for his precision, expertise and forward-thinking approach, he manages a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions from intricate fracture reconstruction to advanced joint replacement. His practice blends technical excellence with a calm, reassuring manner that helps patients feel informed and supported throughout their treatment.

He completed specialist orthopaedic training on the prestigious South East London Rotation, gaining extensive experience at King's College Hospital, Guy's Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital. He then undertook fellowship training at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), one of Europe's highest-volume joint replacement centres. Under internationally recognised mentors, he refined his skills in joint replacement, robotic-assisted surgery and muscle-sparing techniques that improve accuracy, reduce pain and optimise rehabilitation. This training shaped his commitment to state-of-the-art, minimally invasive approaches that enable faster recovery.

His expertise includes total Hip replacement, total and partial Knee replacement, Knee arthroscopy and regenerative treatments for joint preservation. He has a particular interest in day-case arthroplasty and rapid-recovery pathways, enabling suitable patients to return home on the same day while receiving comprehensive postoperative support. His philosophy centres on safe, efficient care that restores confidence, independence and quality of life.

In his NHS role at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, where he also serves as Medical Education Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics, Mr Cheema provides high-quality care to a diverse community. Having grown up in South East London and Kent, he remains strongly connected to the region and committed to delivering care that reflects its needs. Patients value his approachable style, clear communication and focus on tailored, individual care. Consultations are calm and unhurried, aimed at providing clear explanations and shared decision-making.

Collaboration is fundamental to his practice. He works closely with physiotherapists, specialist nurses, anaesthetists, sports physicians and pain specialists to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary care. As an active member of the arthroplasty MDT, he contributes to the management of complex cases including periprosthetic fractures and revision arthroplasty, ensuring patients receive the right expertise at every stage.

Alongside clinical work, Mr Cheema is deeply committed to surgical education. He has been nominated for Trainer of the Year multiple times and was awarded the International Travelling Fellowship for his dedication to trainee development. As Medical Education Lead, he plays a central role in shaping orthopaedic training within his NHS Trust, fostering a culture of learning and high-quality surgical practice. He teaches on national and international courses, chairs journal clubs and supports trainees preparing for postgraduate examinations, reflecting his belief that excellent training underpins excellent patient care.

An accomplished academic, he has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented research nationally and internationally, earning several prizes and bursaries. He remains actively engaged in evidence-based practice and surgical innovation to ensure his patients receive modern, effective treatments.

Across all aspects of his work, Mr Cheema combines surgical expertise, innovation, empathy and a strong commitment to patient-centred care. Whether treating early arthritis, performing advanced joint replacement or managing complex reconstructive surgery, his goal is to relieve pain, restore movement and help patients return to the activities they enjoy with confidence.
