About me
Dr Martins is a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist currently working in the Complex Depression, Anxiety and Trauma (CDAT) Pathway in the North London NHS Foundation Trust. She holds a Specialist Associate registration with the Royal College of Psychiatry.
She qualified fom Lisbon's faculty of Medicine in 2015, having completed an integrated Master's degree. She then took on a diversified training path in Hospital Garcia de Orta in Portugal, having gained extensive experience in inpatient and community mental health settings, and completed rotations in Liaison Psychiatry, Psycho-oncology, Old Age Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addicitions and Forensic Psychiatry. As a higher trainee, she completed a rotation in Perinatal Psychiatry in Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Martins' solid training, in addition to her clinical experience working for CDAT, has afforded her expertise in diagnosing, managing and treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions, particularly (but not limited to) depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar affective disorder, OCD, PTSD and ADHD. Her work in the NHS also enabled her to gain experience in the field of neurostimulation, working alongside the TMS clinic.
Her passion for a holistic approach in mental health inspired her to complete postgraduate training in Systemic Family Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as courses on Mindful Self-compassion and Motivational Interviewing.
Dr Martins believes in an evidence-based, psychologically-informed and empathetic approach to mental health treatment, tending to individuals rather than diagnoses. She is attuned to cultural and social determinants of mental health and consistently applies a bio-psycho-social model in her clinical practice.
Besides her clinical work, she has published in peer-reviewed journals, participated in research and quality improvement projects and been an author of several presentations in medical conferences. She is a keen educator, actively involved in supervising medical students and Psychiatry residents, with experience teaching other health care professionals and delivering lectures on different mental health subjects. She remains updated on the latest developments in Psychiatry, as she is passionate about exploring new avenues for treatment, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological.
