About me

Dr Riat completed her medical school training at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Hospital during which time she also achieved a BSC in Neuroscience with basic medical sciences. She completed her specialist haematology training on the North Central London training programme in 2012, with posts at University College London Hospital, Royal Free Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital. She is currently a Consultant Haematologist at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and Lead for Haemostasis and Thrombosis and Anticoagulation service and also has a bi-monthly clinic in the Haemophilia and Thrombosis Unit and Royal Free Hospital. Dr Riat has a specialist interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis and has expertise in the diagnosis and management of patients with platelet disorders, von Willebrand disease, coagulation factor deficiencies and acquired bleeding disorders, as well as in the management of complex haemostatic and thrombotic conditions including thrombophilia, Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (APLS), unusual site thrombosis and cancer associated thrombosis. Dr Riat provides a liaison advice service to GPs and specialists, including perioperative anticoagulation advice and peri-operative transfusion advice. As a General Haematologist, Dr Riat has excellent experience in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of haematological conditions, including anaemia, immune thrombocytopenia, autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, haemochromatosis, sickle cell disease, thalassaemia, obstetric haematology, myeloproliferative disorders, myelodysplasia, leukaemia, CLL, lymphoma and myeloma. Dr Riat is proficient in performing bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures and in interpreting peripheral blood films and bone marrow samples. She has extensive experience in the administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), biological agents, immune therapy and haematinic replacement including iron infusions. Dr Riat has close links with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, University College London Hospital and Royal Free Hospital, providing access to multi-disciplinary team input.
