About me

Hello, I'm Dr Maria Martinez, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's emotional challenges and reconnect with a greater sense of balance, purpose, and authenticity. I believe that therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of your emotions, and reconnect with yourself. My work focuses on helping people understand the roots of their struggles and create meaningful change through reflection, compassion, and self-awareness. My aim is to help you feel grounded, understood, and supported as you navigate life's challenges.

Intro
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may find yourself keeping everything together on the outside while quietly struggling inside - carrying the weight of anxiety, self-doubt, or the echoes of past experiences that still feel present. Perhaps you have been coping for a long time, but something within you knows it's time to slow down and begin understanding yourself in a deeper, more compassionate way.

Therapy can offer a calm and grounding space to pause and reflect - a space where you can explore your emotions, make sense of repeating patterns, and reconnect with who you are beneath the layers of expectation and responsibility. It's an opportunity to be truly heard and understood, and to begin creating change that feels authentic and lasting.

Whether you are seeking clarity, relief, or personal growth, my aim is to help you feel more connected to yourself and your life. Through our work together, you can begin to develop a sense of calm, confidence, and inner balance - building the foundation for a life that feels more grounded, meaningful, and aligned with who you truly are.

About Me
I am a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), ensuring that my work adheres to the highest professional and ethical standards. I hold a Doctorate (DPsych) in Counselling Psychology from Regent's University London, an MSc in Social Cognition from University College London (UCL), and an MA (Hons) in Psychology from The University of Edinburgh.

My clinical experience spans the NHS, leading mental health charities, and private practice. These varied experiences have given me a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health and the different ways people experience and express emotional distress.?

Over the years, I have supported individuals navigating anxiety, low mood, self-criticism, perfectionism, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, and more. Many of my clients describe feeling stuck in familiar emotional patterns - such as overthinking, people-pleasing, or striving to meet impossible standards - that once helped them cope but now leave them feeling depleted. Together, we explore the roots of these patterns and the emotions beneath them, creating space for insight, healing, and self-acceptance.

I welcome individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, identities, religions, sexualities, and genders. My practice values diversity and inclusion, offering a respectful and supportive space for anyone seeking therapeutic support. Sessions are available in both English and Spanish.

I aim to provide a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings, understand yourself more deeply, and find new ways of coping with life's difficulties. My approach is pluralistic and integrative, meaning that I draw from a range of evidence-based therapeutic models to meet your unique needs and goals.
