About me

Mr Anselm (Ansy) Egun is a Consultant Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Preston, Lancashire, UK specialising in Vascular and General Surgery. He has expertise in the treatment of minimal access and open varicose veins, chronic venous conditions, and all arterial surgery. In addition, Mr Egun has expertise in renal access surgery and all forms of open hernia repairs. He is a specialist in managing diabetic foot problems.
Mr Egun qualified from the College of Medicine at the University of Lagos in 1987 and trained in Bath, London, and Manchester. From 1998 to 2000, Mr Egun was an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester where he was involved in clinical research on vascular patients leading to prize presentations at the Vascular Society of UK and Ireland, in addition to academic publications. He was appointed a Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon by LTH in June 2003.
Mr Egun has numerous interests outside clinical work. He is a committed Surgical Trainer and Educator. He currently holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer post at the University of Manchester Medical School where he is actively involved in the training of undergraduate students. He was the Programme Director of the Salford University MSc Vascular Surgery until 2020. He is also actively involved in the post-graduate teaching of the Northwest and Mersey Specialist Training Programme. Mr Egun is a Faculty member of the very successful Alpine FRCS exit exam course for Specialist trainees before he was appointed as a member of the JCIE board, Vascular Surgery of Great Britain & Ireland . He is a member of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons for the MRCS examination and the FRCS Vascular Exit examination. He has published many original articles and is in the process of writing a book chapter on Vascular Surgery.
Mr Egun has held various Surgical Division and Trust lead positions in the quest for patient safety. These include Clinical Governance, Audit and Effectiveness, Venous Thromboembolism and Drugs and therapeutics leads from 2003 to 2010. He was the Royal College of Surgeons Surgical Tutor for the LTH Trust from 2011 to 2014. He was appointed the Clinical Director for Vascular Surgery following the reconfiguration of Vascular services in Lancashire and South Cumbria. As the lead Clinician for Vascular Surgery, he was responsible for setting up the service and its structures (2016 to 2020). Mr Egun is currently the Associate Divisional Medical Director of Surgery with some of his responsibilities being the assurance of Safety and Quality, Workforce committee chair and SAU lead in the Surgery Division. Mr Egun currently serve on the Board of the UK screen-detected aneurysm in the Lancashire and South Cumbria regions ensuring safe and timely care for the patients. He is also the lead Surgeon representing LTH in the current Vascular Programme Board in the reconfiguration of vascular services in the Lancashire and South Cumbria regions.
Mr Egun was appointed to the Vascular Society Council of Great Britain & Ireland (VSGBI) in 2020 and currently serve as an executive member of VSGBI as chairperson of the workforce committee. In addition, Mr Egun is a member of the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations (JCIE) board of the Royal College of Surgeons UK and Ireland. He also serves as a member of the Specialty Advisory Committees ( SAC ) Vascular Surgery of the Royal College of surgeons (UK & Ireland) with responsibility as Liaison member for Scotland.
