About me

Mr Desai is a senior Orthopaedic surgeon working in the NHS as well as providing private care for Elective Orthopaedic conditions
Early formative years were in Nottingham rotation followed by a specilaist Knee Fellowship at the prestigious Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol.
He has a special interest in Arthroscopic Knee surgery, dealing with meniscus pathology as well as primary and revision cruciate ligament reconstruction. He also has considerable experience in various soft tissue knee problems such as Patella instability and treatment of anterior knee pain syndrome.
On the knee arthroplasty front, he performs the highest number of primary knee replacements within his trust and has a large tertairy referral from his colleagues regarding complex knee replacements and failed knees replacement. Further he has expertise in treatment of young patients with knee arthritis undertaking a significant number of unicompartmental knee replacements including medial UKR, lateral UKR and also Patello-femoral replacements.

He performs several hip operations for arthritis

His results are available in the public domain for people to see and judge for themselves

Further is is very keenly involved in teaching and training, from undergraduate medical students, to junior doctors as well as registrar. He is an examiner for undergraduate final year medical students as well as for the FRSC orthopaedic examinations.

He is actively involved in research and has several publications i peer review journals and has presented his work nationally as well as internationally. He is currently involved in various multi-centre trials and is the Principle Investigator in his Trust on these projects. These include trials on knee arthroplasty and ACL trials and outcomes on knee arthroplasty. He also regularly peer reviews research articles for The Knee whic is the premier journal for knee specialists

Over the years he has been the Service Director of Trauma & Orthopaedics and he was involved in Service development being the Clinical Lead for Elective Transfromation programme. He has been responsible for several innovations of healthcare in his trust, including the development of Enhnced Care Practitioner and Telehealth Clinics. Further he is also the lead for Enhanced Recovery following Joint Replacement, in his trust

He continues to play significant other roles of being an appraiser and hence plays a part in the revalidation of doctors and as part of the Royal College is a approved representative at Consultant appointment in the country
