About me

Dr Hanson is an experienced Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist with over 15 years experience in the field of acquired brain injury and neurorehabilitation. She has held several clinical positions within the NHS and currently works in independent practice.

Dr Hanson has experience of working with individuals at different stages throughout their rehabilitation journey, from acute medical settings to community services. She has expertise in providing specialist neuropsychological assessment, formulation, rehabilitation and therapeutic support for individuals with a range of neuropsychological diagnoses including traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and epilepsy.

Dr Hanson is committed to supporting people to achieve their full potential and to live well with neurological conditions. She adopts an individualised, goal-focused approach to support people in optimising their confidence, independence and engagement in all aspects of life which are most meaningful to them. She recognises that in many cases, neurorehabilitation works best when there is a multidisciplinary approach and she particularly values working jointly and flexibly with other professionals to help individuals achieve their goals and full potential.

In her therapeutic work, Dr Hanson adopts an integrative approach drawing from a range of evidence-based therapeutic models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). She also offers Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as an approach to help individuals process and recover from past traumatic experiences.

Education and Training:
Dr Hanson obtained a 2.1 Honours degree in psychology from the University of Manchester, before completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychologist at the University of Oxford in 2007. She has completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Glasgow, with distinction. She holds professional registration and memberships with the Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC), the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the BPS Division of Neuropsychology.
