About me

Dr Amit Anand specialist areas are Elite Sport Mental Health, General Adult Psychiatry, Neuropsychiatry as well as Rehabilitation Psychiatry. He combined with a career playing professional cricket in India. He received state honours for an entry into medical school. He studied Medicine in India and moved to the UK to pursue his career in psychiatry. He completed his core and higher psychiatry training in Manchester with an endorsement in Rehabilitation psychiatry and gained experience of working in Neuropsychiatry at Salford Royal Hospital. He has also completed his Master's in Clinical Psychiatry from the University of Manchester. Since 2017, he has been working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in secure mental health services within Elysium Health Care.

Dr Amit Anand is an internationally recognised Sports Psychiatrist by the International Society of Sports Psychiatrist (ISSP, USA) and is the first psychiatrist in the UK completed the Diploma in Mental Health in Elite Sports by International Olympic Committee in 2021 with distinction. This has enabled him to develop his passion for the mental health of elite performance in sport. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a member of the Sports and Exercise Special Interest Group since its inception.

Dr Anand has been a Cognacity associate since 2018 and a Sports Psychiatrist in private practice for six years. In early 2025, he started his clinic at 22 Welbeck Street, Cognacity, and has practiced in Manchester for the past five years.

As a Sports Psychiatrist, Dr Anand was a part of the European Tour Group (supportive role) for DP Golf Tournament in Delhi in October 2025.

Dr Anand has been a member of the Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee Panel for European Tours since 2019. He has an expertise in the assessment and the management of ADHD in elite athletes. He has successfully completed the number of Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) applications with Antidoping UK and UEFA. He has keen interest in Concussion and its neuropsychiatric manifestations, sleep problems and ADHD in elite athletes.

Dr. Anand has assessed and provided safe medical management for elite sport athletes in football, cricket, rugby, athletics etc. He has worked with various organisations including the Professional Football Association, The Scottish FA, England and Welsh Cricket Board, Premier League football and rugby clubs.

Dr Anand has keen interest in improving the mental health of the athletes and he has been working on to develop an app for elite sports to improve their mental health literacy and performance. Dr Anand is also nationally recognised as an accomplished expert witness in a wide range of medico-legal areas including high profile sports disciplinary matters and a keynote speaker.

Within Elysium Health Care, Dr Anand had worked in Women's Secure Services for over four years. He also gained a vast experience in Acquired Brain Injury Secure Services. Since late 2022, Dr Anand has been working in low secure unit along with Tier-2 Specialist Neurodevelopmental Services. Dr Anand has an expertise in managing complex cases in secure services including Refractory Schizophrenia, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety and Depression, mood disorders, ADHD and alcohol dependence.
