About me
Elisabet (Liz) qualified in Belgium as a Clinical Psychologist, but when coming to Scotland she started working for the Scottish Prison Service and therefore she also studied Forensic Psychology and is a fully qualified and HCPC registered Forensic Psychologist. She has worked in the prison service for 17 years and has experience with a wide variety of problems that people of all walks of life deal with such as difficulties dealing with emotions, addiction, boundary crossing behaviour, relationship problems, lack of skills in problem solving, anger management or assertiveness, struggling with self-esteem, dealing with life changing events and grief. Elisabet has also worked with those affected by sexual and other types of abuse in a therapeutic manner in order to help them come to terms with the past and move towards a rich and meaningful future. She has done this both within the prison service and outwith it.
Elisabet likes to integrate different therapeutic aspects with her main influences coming from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Other aspects include mindfulness, compassion focused therapy, art therapy, schema informed exploration and attachment theory. Which aspects will be used, mainly depends on the person she is working with (their preferences of working) and what problems they present with. In that way a collaborative approach is used to create a meaningful and safe space to explore and work towards goals.
