About me

Professor Ranee Thakar MD FRCOG is a highly respected Consultant Obstetrician and Urogynaecologist based in London, with extensive experience in the management of pelvic floor and perineal conditions across a woman's life course. She is also an Honorary Professor of Women's Health at the University of Liverpool.

With many years of senior consultant practice, Professor Thakar specialises in the care of women with postnatal pelvic floor problems, bladder and bowel incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, perineal pain, and sexual dysfunction, as well as pelvic floor symptoms related to menopause and later life. She offers both conservative, non-surgical treatments and advanced pelvic reconstructive surgery, tailoring care to each woman's individual needs and priorities.

Professor Thakar served as President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists from December 2022, reflecting her national and international leadership in women's health. She received the President's Award for Outstanding Leadership from the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin in 2023 and is a former President of the International Urogynaecological Association, where she was awarded the Distinguished Service Award.

An internationally recognised authority on perineal trauma, Professor Thakar has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers. It has made major contributions to improving the prevention and repair of obstetric anal sphincter injuries.

In her private practice, she is known for her calm, compassionate, and thorough approach, placing strong emphasis on listening, clear communication, and shared decision-making. She aims to help women restore function, confidence, and quality of life through personalised, evidence-based care.
