About me

Mr Anand’s career in Ophthalmology started in India in 1986. He received his MD in ophthalmology in 1990 and has been in the UK since 1991. He was elected as fellow to RCS Edinburgh in 1992.

Mr Anand completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma in Massachusetts Eye and Eye Infirmary in 1995 and has been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in the NHS since 1998.

He also received a Life-time Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2012 for his contributions in research.

He was a Consultant in Ophthalmology and sole glaucoma specialist for Calderdale Royal Infirmary and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for 15 years prior to joining Cheltenham and Gloucester NHS trust. He developed glaucoma services for a population of 600,000, which included community optician glaucoma services and hospital virtual glaucoma clinics. He pioneered the use of OCT for glaucoma diagnoses and follow-up in the UK. Mr Anand is also a proficient and prolific cataract surgeon. He performs the entire range of glaucoma procedures including trabeculectomy, deep sclerectomy and tube drainage procedures. He is an international expert and pioneer of non-penetrating glaucoma surgery (Deep Sclerectomy). These procedures are considered to be safer alternatives to trabeculectomy.

Mr Anand was the Technical Advisor to National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), for Glaucoma Interventional Procedures from 2009-12.
