About me
I'm a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the NHS, where I have a special interest in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. During my Doctoral training at the University of Oxford, I started to develop an interest in working with symptoms seen after traumatic life experiences - for example, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Since I qualified in 2012, I have worked in a variety of teams in different NHS settings, where people have been experiencing difficulties after certain events. These events may have been in childhood, when they became an adult, or both. I have worked with those affected by the terror attacks in London, Tunisia and Paris.
I currently work in an NHS specialist trauma service, Op Courage, which supports Military Veterans who have had difficulty coming to terms with some of the things that have happened to them.
Sometimes our past experiences can hijack how we manage things in the present. It can be helpful to talk this through with someone; to make links to what factors might be impacting on how you are thinking and feeling emotionally in the present, and whether we can make any changes, to help you feel more emotionally prepared going forwards.
I work with a few different types of therapies, which can all complement one another. Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) which can help people emotionally process past events, allowing us to have an updated view of how we see ourselves, others and the world. This can then help us navigate life going forwards. Compassion-Focused Therapy helps us develop more awareness of the chatter in our mind, and the default to criticise ourselves, instead of coaching ourselves, particularly when things get hard. Lastly Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, which can help us see the link between our thoughts, feelings and subsequent behaviours, and how we can use that to our advantage. Please do get in touch to discuss working together.
