About me

I am a fellowship trained specialist hip surgeon working at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and have been a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2017. I pride myself on delivering personalised, holistic care and surgical procedures to my patients.

I am a specialist in patients requiring first time (primary) total hip replacements, as well as more complex hip replacement surgeries that may be necessary due to bone loss or previous problems. I am also trained in the use of the MAKO robotic hip replacement system.

At the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital site, in addition to primary total hip replacements, I further specialise in revision total hip replacement surgery, where the artificial joint is removed and the entire joint reconstructed. In addition to undertaking general trauma as part of the on-call service, I also manage fractures and trauma associated with hip replacements and their fixation and/or revision.

I completed my pre-clinical and clinical training at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, graduating in 2006. Following basic surgical training, I completed my specialist training on the Cambridge orthopaedic rotation, achieving my fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons of England during this period. I also completed an MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedics from Warwick University and I undertook a Fellowship in Revision Hip Surgery at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, one of the highest volume fellowships of its type in the country. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and was delighted to return as a consultant to this highly sought-after department.

I work in a busy NHS practise. In this alone, I perform three times more than the average surgeon nationally in terms of numbers of primary and revision hip replacement surgery. The National Joint registry records outcomes for such surgery and my personal outcomes are all within expected limits, including those for patient reported outcome measures.

I remain a dedicated trainer, having served as an educational supervisor to numerous trainees since becoming a consultant. I have taught on multiple local and national courses and was awarded the Murray Mathewson Prize in 2020 as the East of England Orthopaedic Regional Trainer of the Year.

In my capacity as the Governance Lead for the Norfolk and Norwich Orthopaedic department, I am responsible for ensuring that the systems and processes within our department are aligned with the principles of delivering safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.
