About me
Dr Elsa Papadimitraki is a Medical Oncology Consultant at University College London Hospital (UCLH), where she serves in the Breast Unit and Early Phase Trials Unit. Renowned for her expertise in breast cancer and innovative research, she combines clinical excellence with a commitment to advancing oncology through cutting-edge trials and education.
Dr Papadimitraki graduated from Charles University's Third Medical School in Prague before undertaking a clinical research fellowship. She completed her medical oncology training at the University of Crete, Greece, in 2012, and earned a PhD in cancer immunotherapy. Her doctoral research focused on the safety and efficacy of the hTERT telomerase vaccine in solid malignancies, resulting in multiple peer-reviewed publications that established her early academic footprint.
Following her PhD, Dr Papadimitraki joined London's Royal Marsden Hospital in 2013 as a Senior Clinical Fellow, specialising in breast cancer at both the Royal Marsden and Kingston Hospital Breast Units. She further honed her expertise as a consultant at Barts & Newham and Southampton & Salisbury Hospitals, contributing to multidisciplinary teams until her appointment at UCLH in 2019. Her career reflects a steadfast dedication to bridging clinical practice with translational research.
At her current post in one of the leading UK oncology centers, Dr Papadimitraki has emerged as a key opinion leader. Her research targets breast cancer with unmet clinical needs, particularly pioneering immunotherapy trials to optimize immuno-oncology strategies. She is Principal Investigator for numerous phase I-III clinical trials in early and advanced breast cancer and serves as UK Chief Investigator for early phase trials for metastatic breast cancer. A visionary in data-driven care, she spearheaded the development of breast cancer clinical database and leads Real World Data initiatives, enhancing patient outcomes through innovative analytics. Her insights are regularly sought at national and international conferences, where she shares advancements in oncology.
