About me
Madalina Pavel is a consultant ophthalmologist and glaucoma surgeon based at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - South Sites in London, where she also works as the Clinical Governance Lead for the South Sites. She specialises in the diagnosis and surgical management of glaucoma, cataract surgery, and general ophthalmology. Miss Pavel performs a wide range of tertiary-level glaucoma procedures, including glaucoma laser treatments (laser iridotomy, selective laser trabeculoplasty, and cyclodiode), trabeculectomy, tube surgeries such as Baerveldt and Paul implants, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) including iStent inject, Preserflo microshunt, ELIOS laser treatment, and OMNI canaloplasty and trabeculotomy. After completing her formal ophthalmology training in Romania in 2018, Miss Pavel joined the UK Specialist Register in 2019. She has worked in the United Kingdom since 2017, gaining clinical experience at several NHS Trusts, including Mid Yorkshire, Doncaster and Bassetlaw and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. She went on to complete a two-year glaucoma fellowship at King's College Hospital and was subsequently appointed as a locum, then substantive consultant at the same institution. Miss Pavel is actively involved in teaching and surgical training and has a strong interest in clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety. She has also contributed her expertise internationally, participating in charitable glaucoma surgery at Tenwek Eye Hospital in Kenya as part of a global health initiative supported by King's College Hospital. Her clinical interests lie in complex glaucoma management and improving access to safe, evidence-based ophthalmic care.
