About me

Alison Hainsworth (MBBS BSc MD FRCS) is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with a specialist interest in pelvic floor surgery (pelvic floor lead at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital) and colorectal cancer surgery.

She trained at Imperial College, London and her surgical training was in the South West Thames region and South Australia. Her MD thesis explored the use of integrated total pelvic floor ultrasound in defaecatory dysfunction.

Surgeries offered include laser treatment (for haemorrhoids, fistula and pilonidal sinus disease), sacral neuromodulation and minimally invasive surgical approaches.

She is an active researcher at Guy's and St Thomas' and supervises PhD and BSc students, with research focused on imaging (including integrated total pelvic floor and endoanal ultrasound) and the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction. She regularly chairs international and national courses and workshops to teach integrated total pelvic floor and endoanal ultrasound, and anorectal physiology.

She is a committee member of the International Continence Society and member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI).
