About me

Dr Matthew Long is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, practising privately at The Lister Hospital, London. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of digestive and liver disorders, with particular expertise in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), endoscopy, and hepatopancreatobiliary medicine.

He studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and University College London, before completing specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology on the North West London rotation, with posts at Imperial College Healthcare, St Mark's Hospital, and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He undertook advanced fellowships in pancreatobiliary medicine at the Hammersmith Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, and was appointed as a consultant at Guy's and St Thomas' in 2022.

Dr Long leads the MASLD service at Guy's and St Thomas' and works closely with obesity and diabetes teams to deliver integrated care for patients with complex metabolic conditions. He is a JAG-accredited trainer in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, performing both upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures.
