These experiences have equipped him with a deep understanding of the physical demands placed on both athletes and performers, as well as the nuances required to support them at the highest level.
Currently serving as a Consultant for Paddle UK, he continues to work at the forefront of elite sport, supporting athletes in achieving peak performance while advocating for safe, inclusive, and sustainable participation in physical activity at all levels.
His clinical approach is both interventional and holistic, combining, evidence-based diagnostics with personalised rehabilitation and lifestyle-focused care. Dr. DeSilva-Abeysinghe is particularly passionate about delivering truly patient-centred caretaking the time to understand each individual's goals, lifestyle, and concerns, and tailoring management plans accordingly. He looks beyond the injury itself to treat the whole person, ensuring care is both effective and meaningful.
He has extensive experience managing a broad spectrum of conditions, from acute injuries such as ligament tears, fractures, and sprains to chronic and complex issues including osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, and bone stress injuries.
Within his clinics, he offers point-of-care diagnostic ultrasound during consultations, enabling immediate and dynamic assessment. Where appropriate, he facilitates timely access to advanced imaging, including MRI and CT scans, ensuring accurate diagnoses and effective treatment planning.
A strong advocate of multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, Dr. DeSilva-Abeysinghe collaborates closely with physiotherapists, osteopaths, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated, high-quality care. He also facilitates appropriate onward referrals when needed, ensuring patients benefit from the right expertise at the right time. This integrated approach allows for seamless care pathways and optimised outcomes.
Dr. DeSilva-Abeysinghe treats individuals across all age groups and activity levels, from aspiring young athletes to busy professionals and older adults seeking to maintain mobility and independence.
