About me
Ms Avril Chang is a very well respected Consultant Surgeon with over 20 years experience, specialising in Upper Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic (Keyhole) surgery.
She has a particular interest in gallstone diseases and has successfully performed thousands of keyhole operations for patients to remove their gallbladder. She has been able to help patients who have been told they have difficult or high risk gallbladders, to still have keyhole surgery, including those with bile duct stones.
She also has great expertise in hernia repairs of all types, including umbilical, inguinal and femoral hernias and can help you work out the best way of repairing your hernia, including different types of surgery and use of meshes. She will ensure that all aspects of a patient's medical and surgical history are carefully considered and fully discussed to develop a plan of management for all her patients. This is particularly pertinent for the more difficult hernias like large para-oesophageal hernias and large complex incisional hernias where no further surgery may be an option.
Trained and educated in Australia, Ms Avril Chang undertook Advanced laparoscopic training with a world renowned unit in Leeds, and worked at Imperial College London as a Senior Lecturer. She was then appointed as a consultant surgeon in King's College Hospital from 2006. Her Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgery practice is now fully at Cleveland Clinic London.
