About me
My name is Alex Hoyle. As a Consultant Urologist my strength lies in providing you with a personalised urological service and I enjoy not only helping you understand and manage your urological problem, but I thoroughly enjoy getting to know my patients individually. I pride myself in my communication skills and approachability and go the extra mile to help support my patients inside the clinic space. I appreciate that some problems are more complex than others, and I make sure that I have a means of communication with patients around their care, not just in clinic.
My aim is to help you quickly investigate and resolve your concerns using cutting edge technological modalities which enable me to fully understand your complaint. I want you to leave clinic with robust knowledge of you problem and a clear action plan to tackle it. This approach empowers you to confidently take a course of action that is right for you.
My private practice is broad, but at its heart I see men complaining of foreskin problems, vasectomy requests, scrotal lumps/pain or those wanting to discuss their male health in particular prostate cancer diagnostics or screening. I support both men and women complaining of blood in the urine (visible or on dipstick), recurrent urinary infections, problems passing urine (too much or too little) or pain in the kidney area, to name a few.
My areas of subspeciality interest revolve around the diagnosis and management of pelvic uro-oncological problems which included prostate and bladder cancer diagnostics and management. I am a fully trained robotic pelvic surgeon and perform major bladder resections for both cancer and non-cancerous conditions. I have established a robotic reconstructive practice in the NHS and regularly support colleagues managing challenging patients with intestinal failure. I have a strong research interest, supported by a doctorate of medicine (MD) which led to the development of a large evidence basis for novel hormone and chemotherapy treatment used in contemporary advanced prostate cancer care.
My NHS role is within a large teaching hospital and I invest time to teach the next generation of surgeons and doctors. Supported by a PG Certification in medical education, I am module lead on the national urology Boot camp, and sit on the panel of exam question writers for the FRCS consultant examinations.
Finally I am co-founder of Prostate Health UK, providing The Prostate Health Clinic. This comprehensive prostate assessment provides men with a robust understanding of their prostate health and engages with them to reduce both the silent and visible risks to their health. I look forward to meeting you and providing you with my expertise to help manage your urological concern.
