About me

Mr John Canny is a highly skilled and approachable consultant colorectal and general surgeon, renowned for his expertise in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. With a warm, patient-centred approach, he combines advanced surgical techniques with genuine care and clear communication.

Mr Canny treats a wide range of abdominal and pelvic conditions, from hernias and haemorrhoids to complex anal and bowel disorders. He has specialist training in managing advanced and recurrent rectal cancers, having completed a prestigious pelvic malignancy fellowship in Birmingham. As a JAG-accredited colonoscopist, he also provides expert endoscopic services including colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy.

He holds an NHS consultant position with the Western Health and Social Care Trust, working across Altnagelvin, Omagh, and South West Acute Hospitals, and sees private patients at Kingsbridge North West Hospital. Mr Canny has published and internationally presented in the field of colorectal surgery and is known for his clinical excellence, clear communication, and compassionate care.
