About me
Mr Luke Hughes is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery. He provides a wide range of surgical and non-surgical treatments for patients of all ages and activity levels, managing both routine and complex conditions. His clinical expertise includes treating ankle instability, foot and ankle arthritis, sports injuries, tendon disorders, and deformities such as bunions, flat feet, and lesser toe problems. He also manages diabetic foot complications, including Charcot neuroarthropathy and ulceration.
Mr Hughes is experienced in a variety of procedures including arthroscopy, tendon and ligament repair, joint replacement, fusion surgery, and minimally invasive osteotomy. His approach focuses on evidence-based techniques aimed at improving recovery and long-term outcomes.
Training and Qualifications:
Mr Hughes graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2013 with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in the North West of England, undertaking dedicated foot and ankle placements at BOFAS-accredited centres such as Manchester Royal Infirmary, Wythenshawe Hospital, and Wrightington Hospital.
In 2023, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), and in 2024, became a member of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS). Following the award of his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), he was selected for the prestigious BOFAS Fellowship at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, where he further refined his skills in ankle arthroplasty, advanced arthroscopy, and minimally invasive techniques.
International and Humanitarian Work:
Driven by an interest in global health, Mr Hughes has undertaken clinical placements at orthopaedic centres in Uganda and Cambodia. He has also worked with the North West Alliance for Africa, contributing to orthopaedic services at the Black Lion and CURE hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
