About me
Hello, I'm a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, I've been working therapeutically since 2005, and as a qualified psychologist since 2011. My approach has evolved over time and I have learned that I best work with people who have complex needs. I work integratively, primarily combining cognitive behavioural therapy with psychodynamic therapy. What this means is that I will ask you to consider your thoughts, feelings and relationships to yourself, and others.
Therapy is a strange thing, there are many different approaches with a range of qualifications. It's important to ensure that the therapist you choose connects with you emotionally, intellectually and in a way that is both comforting and challenging. The people I work with have benefited from a direct, challenging and transparent approach in the therapy room. This is delivered with compassion and kindness, and in this way I will hold you (and myself!) accountable whilst ensuring you feel supported and contained. I want to make sure that you develop skills to hopefully not need therapy again. I'm pretty straight-talking, and do this without being hurtful or condescending. You're the experts in your lives, I'm here to help.
I have expertise in working with people who are experiencing significant difficulties with their sense of who they are or what is happening in their lives, in relationships and their mental health, whether the cause be complex trauma or it being unclear. Sometimes this might include feeling really low, suicidal, stuck, angry or disconnected. That feeling that can arise when we know something isn't right, but we don't fully know what it is, we might have an idea but need some time to think it through, reconnect and clarify our thoughts. Sometimes this might be about our identity (gender, sexuality, family, work, role etc.).
