About me
Mr Kamel is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Croydon University Hospital, specialising in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for colorectal cancer and benign bowel conditions such as diverticular disease.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Mr Kamel completed his higher surgical training in South West London and was appointed as a consultant in 2023. He also holds a PhD in colorectal cancer genetics, with research published internationally.
Passionate about education, he serves as Training Programme Director for Foundation Doctors and Lead Consultant for Medical and Physician Associate Students at Croydon University Hospital.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys family life, football, and is fluent in Egyptian Arabic.
Areas of interest
Mr Kamel is an accredited JAG-certified endoscopist specialising in diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, including endoscopic polyp removal. His clinical focus includes the investigation and management of bowel symptoms such as diarrhoea, constipation, rectal bleeding, and abdominal bloating, using a multidisciplinary approach in collaboration with gastroenterology and dietetics teams.
He has particular expertise in treating benign anorectal conditions, including haemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistulas, pilonidal sinus, and hernias, offering a full range of surgical and minimally invasive treatments. Additionally, Mr Kamel is an accredited Endometriosis Surgeon with the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) and regularly undertakes complex multidisciplinary procedures alongside gynaecology and urology teams at Croydon University Hospital.
