About me

I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at The Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, since 2017, having undertaken surgical training in Edinburgh and Glasgow. I manage patients with general urological problems including troublesome urinary symptoms, recurrent urinary tract infections, blood in the urine, raised PSA and peno-scrotal complaints. I also have a sub-specialist practice in open, laparoscopic and robotic renal surgery for kidney and ureteric cancer as well as benign kidney diseases. I was awarded the British Association of Urological Surgeons Endourology Fellowship and attended The University of South California to learn robotic surgery before setting up the robotic kidney surgery programme in Edinburgh in 2020. I am now involved in training and mentoring robotic surgeons across the UK.

Having been awarded a PhD from The University of Edinburgh after studying molecular markers in kidney cancer, I continue to be actively involved in research. I am funded by the MRC and Scotland's Chief Scientist Office to undertake clinical trials and translational research studies in urology. I lead several clinical trials and studies in benign prostatic disease and prostate, bladder and kidney cancer in Edinburgh and lead the renal cancer sub-group of the Uro-oncology Research UK Group. The aim of this work is to improve outcomes of patients with urological disease, but it also ensures I remain up to date and practice evidence based medicine.

As well as research, I am actively involved in training and teaching. I chair the Royal College of Surgeons Specialty Board in Urology and convene several courses at the College for urology trainees. I am an Educational Supervisor for urological and core surgical trainees within NHS Lothian and was recently awarded the Best Urology Trainer in South-East Scotland.
