Mr Zafer Tandogdu is a Consultant Urological Surgeon with over 20 years of experience, specialising in the diagnosis and management of prostate cancer. He is an expert in robotic radical prostatectomy, performing 3�5 procedures each week, and offers both anterior and Retzius-sparing approaches, as well as the NeuroSafe technique for nerve-sparing surgery.

At the heart of his practice is a patient-centred philosophy�ensuring every treatment plan is tailored to individual needs, values and priorities. He places great importance on open, transparent communication, so patients feel fully informed and supported throughout their care.

Mr Tandogdu is at the forefront of imaging-based surgical planning for prostate cancer, working closely with uroradiologists to enhance surgical precision and safety. His surgical outcomes are continuously audited and consistently align with the best internationally published results.

In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Tandogdu is a leading researcher in urology, with more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and multiple research grants. He currently chairs the European Association of Urology section on infections and is a regular speaker at international conferences.

Research interests

Mr Tandogdu’s research focuses on precision, data-driven urological surgery: imaging-guided planning for robotic radical prostatectomy, surgical quality and outcomes, and prevention of post-operative infections. He leads multicentre studies in antimicrobial stewardship and antibiotic de-escalation, develops AI-based planning/decision tools, and conducts evidence-synthesis, epidemiology and clinical trials to improve prostate cancer care.

Personal interests

Outside of medicine, Mr Tandogdu enjoys an active lifestyle with running, swimming, and time outdoors. He also has a passion for travelling, exploring coffee culture, and listening to music, which provide balance and inspiration beyond his clinical work.

Mr Tandogdu has authored over 70 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and international consensus statements. His research has been published in leading journals including Lancet Oncology, Lancet Infectious Diseases, European Urology, BJU International, World Journal of Urology, and BMJ Open.

prostate cancer diagnosis and referral (PSA interpretation, when to investigate/refer); updates in robotic surgery (anterior, Retzius-sparing, NeuroSafe techniques); and managing common urological conditions in primary care, including benign prostate enlargement, haematuria, recurrent UTIs, and prostatitis.
