About me

Hi there. I am Aileen Brindley MA, MPhil, M.A.Ed., M.Phil, PGDip in Adult Psychotherapy, L4 certified Children's counselling, MBACP, MNCPS (Acc.) I am a Humanistic Counsellor, specialising in Emotion Focused Therapy with adults and playful, creative, talking therapy with children and young people. The right relationship between a client and their therapist is fundamentally important to the positive changes that clients seek in counselling. I will try my best therefore to give you the key information here that so that you can make that important decision.
Whether you are a concerned parent, a teenager struggling with navigating life or an adult experiencing distress, you will find me warm, welcoming and easy to talk to. I will help you explore your difficulties and together we will deepen your self - understanding, increase your confidence and find a way forward. My approach with adults is based on integrative, emotion-focused therapy, offering a variety of approaches tailored to your needs, to identify troubling feelings, thoughts and behaviours. With children I use therapeutic play and creativity, helping them make sense of and manage troubling feelings and supporting parents. With teens I combine all the above.
Over the years I have gained a significant amount of knowledge, skills and experience in alleviating distress. Whether it has been through my many years of counselling patients in GP surgeries within the NHS, through previously running a counselling company in which I managed and supported a team of counsellors and students, delivered training and also community support, or through my extensive experience in my private practice.
I have a proven record of delivering effective help to all ages so that an acceptable resolution to the issues or problems that are causing distress can be found, including anxiety, low self-esteem, OCD, anger management and loneliness. I am also a parent of three children, all now grown up, and have experienced fully both the joys and difficulties of parenting, which have led me to develop my skills also in helping parents who are struggling.
