About me
Dr Kamal Thippu is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based in Cambridge and King's Lynn, UK and an Affiliated Assistant Professor at the Department of Oncology, University of Cambridge, UK. He specialises in prostate, bladder, lung, and oligo-metastatic cancers.
Dr Thippu underwent Clinical Oncology training in Cambridge and completed MSc Oncology at the Institute of Cancer Research, London. He undertook a doctoral research fellowship in Surrey, UK, where he investigated radiosensitising strategies in-vitro and was awarded an MD. He completed proton beam therapy (Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland) and SRS fellowships.
He specialises in advanced radiotherapy techniques (including SABR/SBRT to prostate, lung and oligometastatic cancers), immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and chemotherapy. He is involved in developing and running clinical trials, and part of many trial management groups. He has led/co-led many guidelines, notably the Royal College of Radiologists radiation-dose-fractionation guideline for prostate cancer.
He has wide-ranging research interests including technical radiotherapy, late-phase radiotherapy trials and AI in radiation oncology. He authored numerous scientific papers and book chapters and presented in many scientific conferences.
He is an educator and mentor for oncology residents and medical students. He is an Assistant Editor of Clinical Oncology journal.
