About me

Mr Hassan Mohammed is a consultant ENT and skull base surgeon, appointed at the Newcastle Hospitals NHS foundation trust. He specialises in ear/hearing/balance problems for adults and children and receives referrals from other ENT specialists for advanced care of these and other conditions. He also has special interest in nose, sinuses and voice problems. This enables him to be able to offer specialist assessment and treatment options beyond what is typically available in a standard ENT clinic both in adults and children. In addition to that, Mr Mohammed is fully qualified to treat all types of ENT problems.

His internationally-renowned fellowship training means that he can offer advanced surgical skills and a range of hearing rehabilitation options for all types of hearing loss. He also enjoys being able to provide accurate and effective treatment for people both adults and children with ear discharge, discomfort, tinnitus and dizziness. This is in addition to anterior and lateral skull base pathologies and endoscopic rhinology.

Mr Mohammed works in the NHS at the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation trust, the tertiary centre in the North East. His training was on the North East ENT High Surgical Training programme, undergoing extensive training in all aspects of ENT surgery at a number of centres. Before that, Mr Mohammed worked in most of the centre of excellence hospitals in the country including the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, University college London, Oxford and Cambridge. He has also visited other centres such as Manchester and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He did a fellowship in otology and hearing implants in the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital.

After being awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons he began to specialise in the areas of otology, anterior and lateral skull base surgery. He was then offered the prestigious TWJ fellowship in Otology in St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, Canada. However, he turned that down because he was also offered the highly sought skull base fellowship in Cambridge. In his fellowship, He was exposed to management of complex vertigo and tinnitus patients. He was also able to expand his skills in both nose and ear surgeries, in addition to anterior and lateral skull base procedures.

His surgical repertoire includes operations on the head and neck, the throat, the nose (such as septoplasty and functional endoscopic sinus surgery, balloon-plasty and Eustachian tube surgery), as well as the ear such as tympanoplasty for ear drum retractions & perforations, ossiculoplasty using microscopic techniques and prostheses for conductive hearing loss, hearing implants, stapedectomy for otosclerosis, and tympanomastoid surgery for cholesteatoma. This is in addition to surgeries for certain vertigo and pulsatile tinnitus conditions. Some procedures can be performed under local in certain circumstances.

He has a masters degree in voice pathology with distinction from University College London. This allowed him to appreciate the links between hearing and voice, as well as enabling him to look after complex voice patients including professional and elite voice users.
