About me
Dr Iranthi Meththananda PhD MBBS MRCOG Consultant Lead in Fertility, Specialist in Early Pregnancy & Women's Health.
Dr Iranthi Meththananda began her career with a PhD at Barts & The London School of Medicine, where her research focused on microbiome formation on biomaterials. She went on to study medicine at University College London, graduating with her MBBS in 2010, followed bytraining in the Academic Foundation Programme at the Imperial College hospitals, Charing Cross and St Mary's. She then completed her Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 2016.
Her postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology was undertaken across leading hospitals in London and Kent. During this time, she completed advanced training in subfertility, early pregnancy, gynaecology, and suspected cancer clinics. She was also awarded a prestigious fellowship at University College London Hospital (UCLH) in Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology Diagnostics, where she gained advanced expertise in ultrasound scanning and complex case management, including scanning for endometriosis.
In 2022, Dr Meththananda was appointed Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, where she is currently the Fertility Lead and a specialist in early pregnancy and acute gynaecology.
Her area of care include:
- Fertility investigations including HyCoSy
- Recurrent miscarriage and MVA (manual vacuum aspiration) procedures
- Pelvic pain, including specialist scanning for endometriosis & adenomyosis
- Specialist 'one stop' diagnostic clinics for suspected cancer
- Management of abnormal uterine bleeding
- Menopause and bleeding with HRT
- PMS/ PMDD
- Outpatient hysteroscopy
- Fibroid resection
- Open and minimal access surgery
During her training, Dr Meththananda was a Chair of trainees for Kent, Surrey & Sussex and representative at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She is committed to nurturing clinical excellence and ensuring that trainee doctors feel supported and their voices are heard. She has taught at national level and leads quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance women's health services.
