About me

Professor Suzuki is Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Leicester and has also been Associate Dean of the College of Life Sciences (including Medicine). He is a Consultant Cardiologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and practices at Glenfield Hospital which is one of the UK's main cardiac specialist hospitals where he leads a specialist service in aortic cardiology/medicine which was the first for the UK alongside his general cardiology practice. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and has contributed to defining contemporary care of patients with aortic disease for which he is renown both nationally and internationally.

He has also pioneered research in deciphering the contribution of the gut microbiome to risk of cardiovascular diseases (e.g. heart failure, coronary artery disease) using cutting-edge data science and biomarker/omics methodology.

Professor Suzuki qualified then trained and progressed to senior/consultant roles at the University of Tokyo and Hospital (and currently holds a research professorship at the Institute of Medical Science) before relocating to the UK and retains board certification as a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology in Japan.

He also holds US medical qualifications (ECFMG certification) and has practiced in China at the Zhejiang University Hospital where he holds an honorary professorship/chair as well as at Shanghai Jiaotong University Hospital.
