About me
I am a consultant ophthalmologist, uveitis and medical retina specialist, and cataract surgeon at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. I graduated first in my class from the University of Thessaly Medical School, Greece, and subsequently attained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in transplantation immunology from the University of Oxford. I completed my ophthalmology specialist training in Liverpool, and a fellowship in medical retina and uveitis at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Before joining Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 2022, I was a consultant ophthalmologist at Oxford Eye Hospital.
I am the lead for adult uveitis research at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, and have an interest in biomarkers of immunosuppression and immune profiling of patients with non-infectious uveitis. In addition to my NHS duties, I am an associate editor at BMJ Open Ophthalmology and a review editor at Frontiers in Ophthalmology. Furthermore, I am a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists medical retina expert group on prevalence and incidence of eye conditions and workforce composition, and an examiner for FRCOphth.
I am an expert in managing ocular inflammation (uveitis and scleritis), including complex disease requiring systemic immunosuppression. In addition, I am experienced in treating patients with age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases (including diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular oedema, and retinal vein occlusions), and other retinal disorders amenable to non-surgical management. I offer a variety of treatments, including intravitreal steroid and anti-VEGF injections, cataract surgery, laser capsulotomy, and retinal laser treatment.
