About me

Mr Aakash Pai is a highly experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon, providing expert care across both general and complex urology. He is recognised for his clinical excellence, innovation, and commitment to patient-centred care, offering comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of urological conditions. Mr Pai graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2008 and completed his foundation and core surgical training within the prestigious Oxford Deanery. He subsequently undertook specialist urological training at high-volume centres across Surrey, Sussex, and South London, gaining extensive experience in both routine and complex urological procedures.

Following completion of his training, he was awarded the highly regarded British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) and World Congress of Endourology Fellowship, enabling him to further develop advanced surgical techniques on an international stage.

In 2020, Mr Pai was appointed as a Consultant Urologist at Northampton General Hospital. He is the clinical lead for complex kidney stone disease, receiving tertiary referrals from across the region. He also serves as the department's Clinical Governance Lead, with a strong focus on patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based care.

Mr Pai manages a broad spectrum of urological conditions, including lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and prostate enlargement, urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney stones and complex stone disease, scrotal conditions and testicular pain, penile disorders, haematuria (blood in the urine), and the early diagnosis and management of urological cancers, including prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer. He has a particular interest in rapid diagnosis and early cancer detection, ensuring timely access to investigations and treatment.

He is at the forefront of modern urology and was the first urologist in the East Midlands to introduce several advanced techniques, including Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), Aquablation therapy for benign prostate enlargement, laser ablation of bladder tumours, Optilume urethral dilatation, and MRI fusion-guided prostate biopsies.

Mr Pai has a strong interest in minimally invasive and day-case surgery, and has authored a book chapter on ambulatory urology, contributing to improvements in patient recovery and reduced hospital stays.

Alongside his clinical practice, he is actively involved in research and innovation. He is a Principal Investigator on multiple randomised controlled trials and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. His work is regularly presented at international conferences, contributing to ongoing advancements in urological care.

To complement his clinical expertise, Mr Pai completed an Executive MBA with honours, reflecting his commitment to improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

He is also a passionate educator and mentor. He has been nominated for the BAUS Silver Cystoscope Award in recognition of excellence in surgical training, and as a Royal College Surgical Tutor, he has made significant contributions to surgical education within his institution. He has taught anatomy at Oxford Medical School, contributes to the Cancer Care curriculum at Leicester Medical School, and supports the development of medical students and junior doctors.
