About me

I understand how scary it is picking up the phone, or emailing and asking for help from a stranger. But a stranger can be easier to talk to than a friend or relation. People say they can't say everything to a relation, they feel they have to edit what they say, or a friend will want to fix you and not hear you out.

Hi, I'm Natalie and here's a little about me. I started to think about becoming a counsellor after losing my baby son back in 2002.

I wanted to help people that had gone through similar to me. Back then, that was my way of saying that my emotions were too painful to deal with, so I would rather help other people deal with theirs.

It wasn't until I finally had counselling, a couple of years after my son died, that I realised what the grieving journey was all about. I suppose I tried to hide from my grief by pouring myself into my work, which was primary school teaching at the time.

But counselling changed me. It made me understand that I needed to front my feelings in order to move forward. I had to change what was on the inside of me in order to change the outside (I'd been trying to do it around the other way for a few years before having counselling and that obviously didn't work).

Once I'd done the work on myself, I was ready to train as a counsellor and I could help other people.

My way of supporting you is to listen really carefully. I help you to make connections between your present and your past, as your past is usually to blame for your issues now. A lot of my work involves childhood trauma and I combine hypnotherapy with counselling (if this is what you would like), to help heal the inner child that may have been hurt many years ago, but you are still carrying their hurt. As you learn more about your past and maybe your parents past (this is generational trauma), you then begin to understand yourself more and learn to let go of unwanted past behaviours, that at one time may have saved you.

As your counsellor, of course I want to help you, but I encourage you to come up with your own answers. You find the tools to help yourself. That's what I did!

Areas of interest

Areas of interest:

Bereavement; anxiety; depression; weight management; fears; phobias; PTSD; relationship breakdown; childhood trauma.

Alongside counselling I am also a hypnotherapist and use this as a tool particularly when working with childhood trauma. Hypno helps to uncover lost memories and heal the inner child.
