About me

Dr. Ibitoye attained his certificate of completion of training in Neurology in November 2021. He has unique experience and expertise in dizziness and balance (vestibular) disorders. In parallel with his clinical work, he is engaged in research, including a recent post-doctoral fellowship at University College London investigating the link between balance, and ageing of small vessels in the brain (cerebral small vessel disease).

Dr. Ibitoye is a Consultant Neurologist working at North Bristol NHS Trust. In this role, he works with both the stroke and neurology departments. His work involves managing inpatients and outpatients with a broad range neurological disease. He recently led on, and helped develop the secondary care service for advanced treatments in migraine (Botox and calcitonin gene-related peptide treatments). In this role, he reduced waits for eligible patients to access advanced migraine treatments, developed referral pathways, and has worked to increase patient access in the regional NHS to advanced migraine treatments. Aligned with his experience, he has interest and expertise in seeing patients with dizziness and balance problems (vestibular disorders).

Dr. Ibitoye studied medicine at the University of Cambridge. He later trained in neurology in Bristol, where he was awarded a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Fellowship in Neurology. Within this fellowship, he conducted research with the Bristol neuro-inflammatory diseases group. He then completed a clinical research fellowship and PhD at Imperial College London, investigating the link between dizziness and small vessel disease - while gaining expertise in the management of dizziness and balance disorders. He was awarded the Hallpike (national) prize for research excellence for this work. Thereafter, he applied for, and succeeded in obtaining a personal (Guarantors of Brain, UK) post-doctoral research fellowship award to advance his interest in small vessel disease effects on balance control, which he completed at University College London. He continues to undertake collaborative research with colleagues at University College London.
