About me
Mr Damien Tucker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist focus on upper limb conditions, bringing over 17 years of experience and performing more than 360 procedures each year. He provides expert care for a wide range of shoulder, elbow, hand, and wrist problems, combining advanced surgical techniques with a thoughtful, patient-centred approach.
His practice covers both non-surgical and surgical treatment, with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques wherever appropriate. This allows many patients to benefit from reduced discomfort, quicker recovery, and an earlier return to normal activity.
Mr Tucker is experienced in managing everything from common conditions such as rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, and carpal tunnel syndrome, through to more complex problems including shoulder instability, arthritis, and ligament injuries. He works closely with each patient to understand their lifestyle, goals, and expectations, ensuring treatment is tailored to achieve the best possible outcome, whether that is returning to everyday function or higher-level sport.
Specialist Expertise
• Upper limb orthopaedics (shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist)
• Arthroscopic (keyhole) and open shoulder surgery
• Rotator cuff pathology and shoulder instability
• Elbow conditions including tennis and golfer's elbow
• Hand and wrist surgery, including nerve compression syndromes
• Sports injuries and tendon disorders of the upper limb
Mr Tucker qualified from the University of Cape Town and went on to complete higher specialist orthopaedic training in Bristol, one of the UK's leading surgical training centres. He also undertook international fellowship training in Perth, Australia, gaining further specialist experience in upper limb surgery. He holds a research doctorate (MD) from the University of Bristol and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2020.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Tucker is actively involved in teaching and research. As an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Bristol, he contributes to the training of future surgeons. His research has focused on areas such as rotator cuff disease and the potential role of stem cell therapies in treating osteoarthritis, reflecting his interest in advancing orthopaedic care.
He has received national and international recognition for his work, including the British Orthopaedic Association Future Leaders Programme Scholarship and an award for Best Scientific Poster at the EFORT Congress.
A key aspect of Mr Tucker's approach is ensuring patients feel fully informed and supported in their decisions. He believes surgery should only be recommended when it is genuinely in the patient's best interests and always explores non-surgical options where appropriate. When surgery is required, he prioritises techniques that support faster recovery and reliable long-term results.
Patients appreciate his clear communication, honest advice, and approachable manner. He is committed to delivering high-quality, personalised care in a supportive environment, helping each patient return to their chosen activities with confidence.
Mr Tucker practises at Practice Plus Group Emersons Green and Devizes, and accepts patients with Bupa, Aviva, AXA, and WPA insurance, as well as self-pay patients.
