About me

I have been a consultant in general upper GI and vascular surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead since April 2002.

I was the Clinical Lead in Surgery from 2007 to 2017 and Associate Medical Director (
Patient Safety and Quality) from 2017 to 2024

I am an Associate Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University

I have edited 3 books and published more than a hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals

I am an examiner for the FRCs (Specialty Board Exam in General Surgery)

I have done the majority of my registrar training in the North East and Mersey Deanery.
I have also completed a two-year Vascular Surgery Clinical Fellowship in Seattle, Washington, USA, before taking up my consultant post.
I have done my basic surgical training in the North West.

Keyhole surgery to remove gall bladder (laparoscopic cholecystectomy)
