About me
Mr Raj Ragoowansi is a Senior Consultant at Barts Health NHS Trust, specializing in peripheral nerve decompression, tendon reconstruction, joint rebalancing, and the excision of swellings from the hand and wrist. He is adept in managing complex hand trauma, including tendon, nerve, and vessel injuries, utilizing microscopic expertise and soft tissue reconstruction techniques, in collaboration with specialist hand therapists.
In conjunction with dermatologists, Mr. Ragoowansi treats benign and malignant skin lesions.
Mr. Ragoowansi's medical training began with General Surgery, followed by earning the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). He then pursued advanced training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in London, East Grinstead, and Chelmsford, gaining expertise in reconstructive surgery for the breast, face, hands, and trunk. His international fellowships in Hand and Wrist Surgery took him to the USA, France, and India. He also received formal training in Aesthetic Surgery at Wellington Hospital and King Edward VII Hospital, London, both approved by the Royal College of Surgeons.
He has received several research and clinical grants from the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand to investigate the molecular mechanisms and treatment of abnormal scar formation. Mr. Ragoowansi has authored over 25 papers in peer-reviewed plastic and hand surgery journals and has been invited to lecture on the Aesthetic Surgery faculty at the University of London. He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).
In addition to his reconstructive surgery services for hands (trauma, nerve compression, rheumatoid arthritis) and breast (post-mastectomy reconstruction, congenital asymmetry), Mr Ragoowansi has a special interest in body contouring for patients after extreme weight loss, chest wall reconstruction following coronary artery bypass surgery, and the management of problem scars. He also provides a 'see and treat' clinic for skin lesions within a multidisciplinary setup.
