About me
Dr Madeleine Wells is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal London Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, and practises privately in central London.
She specialises in anaesthesia and perioperative care for major abdominal and pelvic surgery, including hepatobiliary, colorectal and gynaecological oncology procedures. She also has expertise in high-risk preoperative assessment, interventional radiology, major haemorrhage and postoperative enhanced care.
Dr Wells completed a year-long fellowship in liver transplantation and hepatobiliary anaesthesia at the Royal Free Hospital. Her current NHS practice includes major colorectal and abdominopelvic surgery, high-risk anaesthesia assessment and consultant care on the Royal London Surgical High Dependency Unit.
She has a particular interest in helping patients prepare safely for major surgery and supporting their recovery afterwards. She leads work in enhanced recovery, clinical governance and patient safety, bringing together preoperative optimisation, careful intraoperative management and high-quality postoperative care.
Dr Wells' research and publications include liver transplantation, major haemorrhage and point-of-care coagulation testing.
