About me
Mr. Richard Simpson is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Bolton Hospital. He was raised in Bolton before proceeding to Leeds for his undergraduate education, where he graduated in 2012 with a first-class honours degree in Anatomy and then in 2014 with a MBChB in Medicine. Subsequently, Mr. Simpson returned to the North West to complete his surgical training. During this period, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Urology from the University of Salford and completed master's level modules in Medical Education at Edge Hill University.
Mr. Simpson has developed a specialist interest in urinary tract stone disease and has been a leading figure in the development of a network specialist stone multidisciplinary team. His practice also encompasses a specialist interest in paediatric urology. Since assuming his role, he has successfully re-established the locally led service at the Royal Bolton Hospital. He is an advocate for men's health and offers a range of treatment options for benign prostatic disease. Furthermore, he performs diagnostic procedures for all urological cancers.
Mr. Simpson has authored several peer-reviewed publications in the field of men's health and has presented data internationally on the outcomes of novel shock wave lithotripsy pathways. He has consistently prioritised clinical governance and actively participates in quality improvement initiatives. In particular he has presented data internationally on measures to reduce in hospital catheter-associated infection rates.
Throughout his career, Mr. Simpson has always been a keen medical educator since serving as an Anatomy Demonstrator in his undergraduate days. He has now assumed the lead role in teaching medical students within his department. In this capacity, he has garnered recognition for his enthusiasm and mentorship.
In life outside of medicine Mr Simpson is a keen endurance athlete. He has competed in a range of swimming and cycling events, but running is his true passion and he now enjoys being cheered on by his young family.
