About me

Dr Chris Henry Fraser MB ChB MD FRCP is a consultant gastroenterologist and qualified from Edinburgh University in 1992 with training in Aberdeen, Birmingham, Manchester and London. He achieved MRCP in 1996 and was awarded an MD in 2004 for studies of the neurophysiologic control of swallowing. He became FRCP in 2009. He undertook the 1st advanced endoscopy fellowship at The Wolfson Unit for Endoscopy at St Mark's Hospital in 2003 prior to his consultant appointment there in 2004. After 10 years at St Mark's, he is now consultant gastroenterologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He sees private patients in Edinburgh.

Dr Fraser was a nationally accredited NHS bowel cancer screening specialist in colonoscopy while at St Mark's and successfully led the hospital's bid to become one of the first national BCSP centres in England in 2006. He continues to perform bowel cancer screening colonoscopy in Scotland. He was the clinical lead of the St Mark's small bowel and obscure GI bleeding service and a faculty member of the European Capsule Endoscopy Training Course and UK Small Bowel Endoscopy Users’ Group.

Dr Fraser consults and/or performs endoscopy at The Spire Murrayfield and Shawfair Park Hospitals and The Edinburgh Clinic in Edinburgh.

Acid reflux and laryngopharyngeal reflux; refractory or atypical reflux symptoms; nausea and vomiting; dyspepsia and gastroparesis; swallowing difficulty; iron deficiency anaemia; gastrointestinal and rectal bleeding; small bowel disease including Crohn's disease, coeliac disease, other malabsorbtion problems; constipation; diarrhoea; bloating and abdominal pain; burping and flatulence; evacuatory problems; bowel dysfunction relating to hypermobility syndrome and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome; food intolerance and sensitivity; small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO); inflammatory bowel disease; bowel cancer screening and removal of bowel polyps to prevent bowel cancer; endoscopy (gastroscopy including transnasal endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy and Stretta endoscopic antireflux procedure).
