About me

Miss Sayan Patra-Das is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in gynaecology, early pregnancy diagnostics, and preterm birth prevention.

Her NHS practice is at the Homerton University Hospital where she leads the prevention of preterm service, supported by an outstanding Level 3 neonatal unit. Homerton Hospital has an excellent reputation amongst patients and is rated outstanding in CQC reports.

She is skilled in early pregnancy and gynaecological ultrasound, including transvaginal scanning for viability, ectopic pregnancy, and pelvic pain having gained advanced training for it at UCLH after completion of her speciality training across London Deanery.

She specialises in One Stop clinics which provides patients with comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services in a single visit. This aims to enhance efficiency, reduce patient anxiety, and improve overall healthcare outcomes. Mostly, she sees postmenopausal bleeding issues in such clinics where she scans patients and creates a care plan for the women.

She uses ultrasound scanning as a tool to enhance accuracy and safety during surgical procedures, particularly in minimally invasive or complex cases. She is an experienced gynaecologist and surgeon with excellent outcomes due to her meticulous planning.

Her particular interest is in helping women to get pregnant by identifying and addressing gynaecological issues early, before they affect fertility with focus on better reproductive health, including dealing with hormonal issues, treating causes of menstrual problems like fibroids, polyps and ovarian cysts.

Her approach is compassionate, evidence-based, and highly personalised. She works closely with each woman to create a care plan that fits her unique journey, providing reassurance, clear communication, and continuity throughout.

She has a keen interest in teaching both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She has regularly presented at national and international meetings and has over 15 publications in peer reviewed international journals. She has published chapters in a book on operative procedures in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
