About me

About me

Hello, and thank you for viewing my profile. I'm Helen Boud, and I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, having trained as a Humanistic Integrative Therapist in Colchester. I am also a Counselling Tutor and a Clinical Supervisor.

Clients' General feedback

Clients I work with have told me that I have a friendly, personal approach which enables them to quickly feel at ease. They also tell me how they have valued being listened to and understood. As your therapist, I will support you without judgement, and encourage you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe way, at your own pace and in your own unique way.
I will help you to think about which changes you may want to make in your life to improve your health and wellbeing. Most importantly, we will together build a therapeutic working relationship in which you feel listened to, valued and respected.

What brings you to Counselling?

It could be that you are struggling with some aspect of your life right now, perhaps in your relationships, at work, or in your feelings about yourself. You may be at a crossroads, or you may feel that something needs to change, but you are not sure what that something is.
It might be that you are affected by events or relationships that have happened in your past and that still impact you in your current life. Or you may have a good idea of what you need, but be unsure about how to go about making the changes necessary.

How could Counselling help?

I will offer you a reliable, non-judgemental, confidential and warm space in which to explore your thoughts, feelings, needs and aims. I will adapt my approach to your unique needs, and provide you with the safety in which you can make decisions for your future, as well as potentially make sense of your past and your patterns of behaviour.
The therapeutic working relationship that we build together will be important in helping you to understand your relationship with yourself and others, as well as provide a vehicle through which you might make change work for you.

Proven results

I find many clients that I work with leave therapy feeling more accepting of themselves, gaining greater understanding of their lives and patterns in relationships, and feeling more empowered to move forwards in the direction they wish to go. As I listen to you in this special way, my hope is that you may learn to listen to yourself with greater accuracy, acceptance and compassion.
Which approaches do I use as a therapist?
The most important approach I use, is to put our relationship at the centre of our work together. This can be called the Person-Centred approach, or the Humanistic approach to therapy. Through this approach, I help to provide a space in which you feel safe, accepted and validated as a person of intrinsic worth.

Other Therapeutic Approaches

I may also offer aspects of other approaches, such as Psychodynamic therapy, where we look at patterns from the past, Gestalt therapy, in which we experiment with and try to resolve unfinished business from your past.

Creative therapy

You can choice a creative therapy approach which can help you access unconscious beliefs and feelings, or Inner Child Work, in which we connect with your younger self and build a healing relationship with your child from the past.

Past Trauma

I also offer a trauma-informed approach, meaning that I might help you to understand how you respond on a physical level to stress and trauma and encourage you to find ways to cope when your trauma response is triggered.
I have also several years of experience of working with people who have been traumatized by sexually abuse or assault, or who have experienced domestic violence, so this approach is often helpful in these instances.

Professional Accreditation

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and abide by their Ethical Framework.
